Renegades wrap up season at the State Tournament
Bakersfield College took 5 wrestlers to San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton for the California State Championships. Jose Leandro 125, Jonathon Gomez and Max Ramriez 149, Dillon Harroun 174, and Josh Davis Heavyweight.
Harroun was the highest placer for the Renegades as he found succes early before falling to the eventual 174 chamion Alex Campos-Chambers. Dillon got back on the winning track after that and made it to the 5th place match, winning 10-5.
Heavyweight Davis started off the meet very strong making it to the semifinals and squaring off against Nader Abdullatif of Mt. San Antonio, the eventual champion. Davis lost in double overtime 1-2 but was able to battle back to the 5th place match while being hampered by injury. He lost that match to finish 6th.
149 pounder Max Ramirez, BC's highest seeded wrestler entering the tournament, was a surprise upset loser in the second round and had to wrestle back through the consolation bracket to the 7th place match were he won 7-3.
Jose Leandro, 125 and Jonathon Gomez, BC's second qualifier at 149, were unable to secure a victory in the tournament but wrestled hard.
As a team the Renegades placed 12th out of 19 teams that competed.
