SWEEPING THE RENEGADES

SWEEPING THE RENEGADES

A two-game sweep over the Renegades of Bakersfield is just what the baseball Hornets needed as the team gears up for Orange Empire Conference-play next week.

The two wins ratchet up FC's overall record at 12-7, while Bakersfield dips down to 6-10 overall.

On Thursday, FC traveled up to Bakersfield beating the Gades 14-2. The Hornets gathered 14 total hits with Tank Espalin and Britton Beeson chipping in with 3 hits apiece. Haku Dudoit and Landon Runge both had 2 hits each. FC starter Matt Romero (2-0) earned his second win throwing 6 innings with 6 hits against, had 1 earned run, a walk, and 5 K's.

The Hornets then hosted Bakersfield on Friday and it only took two hours and fifteen minutes for Fullerton to pull off a 4-3 victory.

Bako drew first blood scoring a run in the top of the second thanks to Trevor Spainhoward's double to left field that scored Ryan Redstone.

FC snapped back with two runs in the bottom of the second. Britton Beeson opened the inning with a monster shot to right center for a triple. Soon enough, Jimmy Blumberg knocked a single to right field to score Beeson. Later in the inning, Haku Dudoit came home on an error for a 2-1 Hornet lead.

Bakersfield's David Escobar hit a single to the left side scoring A Martinez to knot the game up 2-2 in the fourth.

Fullerton doubled its lead scoring a run in the sixth and seventh innings. Elie Kilgman was able to come home from third on Diego Franco's deep sacrifice fly to center, and Kligman struck again causing chaos for the Renegades getting on first on an error allowing Tank Espalin to score.

Freddy Castaneda (4-1) tossed a strong 8-inning game for the win. He allowed 5 hits, 1 earned run, had 0 walks and 9 strikeouts. Nathan McManus came in the ninth earning his 3rd save of the season allowing a hit, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and had 1 strikeout.

Up Next: Fullerton (12-7 overall) will begin a three-game series against last season's OEC champs in Saddleback College (12-3). The series begins on Tuesday, March 7th at Saddleback with the first pitch going out at 2:00 pm.
