Bakersfield registered a season-high 15 3-pointers on Wednesday night in a 94-68 men's basketball win over SBCC at the Sports Pavilion.
Shahadah Camp, a 5-11 sophomore guard, poured in seven triples and scored 26 of his 34 points in the first half when the Renegades (11-6) took a 50-34 lead.
Jashon Lee, a 6-2 freshman from Hesperia, posted a season-best 24 points for the Vaqueros (3-14). He came off the bench to make 6-11 field goals and 11-14 from the free-throw line in 28 minutes. He had scored just 26 points in 16 games coming in with a season-high of eight. Lee also had six rebounds and six assists.
Kile Kleiner, the No. 2 scorer in the WSC North at 18.5, added 13 for the Vaqueros and Samuel Weiss had a season-high 10 points with a pair of 3-pointers.
Bakersfield outshot the Vaqueros 44.2% to 37.9% and outrebounded them 57-41. The Renegades hit 15-35 from 3-point range while the Vaqueros were 7-20. Both teams struggled from the charity stripe with the Vaqueros hitting 17-31 (54.8%) and the Renegades 3-11 (27.2%)
Bakersfield built its first-half lead with runs of 18-7 and 15-7. Camp hit three 3's in a row at one point and nailed his fifth long-range shot to boost the lead to 32-21 with 7:32 to go in the first half.
The Renegades opened the second half on a 19-8 burst. Shannon Wafer scored 11 of his 19 points during that run to give the visitors a 27-point advantage, 69-42.
"They shot the 3 really well in the first half and No. 10 really hurt us," said Morris Hodges, who's in his 29th season as the Vaqueros' head coach. "We had a bunch of turnovers and missed a lot of shots.
"They were driving to the bucket in the second half for a bunch of layups. Our help-side rotations were just non-existent. Then you compound that with poor offense and the floodgates kind of opened on us."
Lee scored 14 of his career-high 24 points in the first half. He nailed SBCC's first two buckets on a 3-pointer and a 16-foot jumper.
"Jashon was the best player tonight," said Hodges. "He showed a lot of improvement and he was playing within himself. His aggression was there and that was his best game, by far."
The Vaqueros will take the next nine days off, then open WSC North play on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Ventura at 5 p.m.
