The result was not what was desired, a 3-0 loss to visiting Bakersfield College, but the Glendale College Women's Volleyball Team finally felt at home Wednesday Oct. 19 in the Verdugo Gym on the GCC campus with no fans allowed in the stands.

The pandemic and construction delays to a new facility being built have kept the Lady Vaqueros off their home floor since the 2019 season ended in November of that year, but it did not dampen their enthusiasm despite losing the match in three straight games, 25-10, 25-14, 25-12.

Until Wednesday, GCC has been on a season long road trip made necessary by the unavailability of the Verdugo Gym because of a new floor being installed and other construction related issues. The closest the team came to playing at home was two games played in September at nearby Ribet Academy in Los Angeles.

But despite the homecoming, the Lady Vaqs could not overcome the visiting Renegades who started fast with a 5-0 lead in the first game that grew to 20-6 before winning out at 25-10. Games two and three were much of the same except game three where Glendale held a slight lead at the outset at 5-3 before mounting errors allowed Bakersfield back in the game before they eventually prevailed.

Glendale will have several home games in the next few weeks as they flipped several games in the schedule from home to away before the gym was available and will host Santa Monica Friday Oct. 22, Canyons at Glendale Oct. 29, West. L. A., Nov. 3, a doubleheader against Citrus Nov. 5 at 4 and 6 pm, and the home season concludes Nov. 10 against Antelope Valley. All games are at 6 pm with the first game against Citrus Nov. 5 starting at 4 pm.

No fans will be allowed at home games through Oct. 29 but the policy will be evaluated after that date.
