SBCC rallied to win the No. 2 and 3 matches on Friday and earn a tie with Glendale 2-2 in its final women's beach volleyball dual match of the season at Cal State Bakersfield.
Grace Trocki/Emma Taccone and Michelle Orgel/Madie Meyer were both tied at 14 in the third set of the 2s and 3s at the same time, then both pulled out 16-14 wins to earn the 2-2 tie.
"We have lost plenty of close ones this season, so it was nice to win two at the same time," said coach Samantha Calisto. "They battled through long points in 90-degree weather to win those matches."
The Vaqueros lost to second-place Bakersfield 5-0 in the morning match. In its first season of intercollegiate play, SBCC went 2-13-1 overall and 2-9-1 in the WSC.
Santa Barbara was playing without McKenzie Garrison and Lily Eaves, who were sick.
"We competed better than I've ever seen in the Glendale match," Calisto stated. "Jacque Ortegon's back spasmed five points into her No. 1 match with partner Emma Esparza. So Jacque stood at the net while Emma covered the whole court for the rest of the set. They lost by two points (21-19) with Emma basically playing on her own."
The Vaqueros will play in the WSC Pairs Tournament on Wednesday at the Ventura Marina at 10 a.m.
