BAKERSFIELD - The Marauder men's soccer team needed only one goal and its defense did the rest as it shut out Bakersfield College on the road with a 1-0 victory over the Renegades, Tuesday at Bakersfield College.
"In the last three matches we have doubled our shot attempts and outshot our opponents two to one which has contributed to our latest success," AVC head coach Jerry Stupar said. "Both ends of the field did their job with the defense getting the shut out and the offense increasing their shot attempts. Bakersfield is a tough place to play at with field dimensions 100x70 which resembles more of a football field versus 120x80 yards of a soccer field. In the end, I thought we did what we needed to stay in the hunt for a run at the conference championship."
AVC (7-7-2, 2-2-1), which has won two matches in a row, remains only one game out of first place behind Citrus College (5-5-4, 3-1-1) and Glendale College (4-8-4, 3-1-1). The Marauders opened their conference season with both teams and lost 3-1 at home against Citrus and 2-1 on the road against Glendale.
The only goal scored came only two minutes into the match from AVC's Angel Macario which was assisted by Cameron Taylor.
Goal keeper Nick Springer helped lead the Marauders' stingy defense as he finished with seven saves.
