Women’s Basketball Edges Bakersfield in Low Scoring Affair

It was another nail biter for the Tigers as they found themselves in a dog fight against the Bakersfield College Renegades in the second round of the Sixth Annual RCC "Earning Our Stripes" Tournament. In a low scoring affair that featured streaky offensive play and rhythm, it was the Tigers who prevailed by the final score of 55-51.

Riverside rode a strong second quarter that turned out to be the difference in the game. Despite being outscored in the third quarter, the Tigers went blow for blow in the fourth quarter leading to the crowning. It was a poor offensive night for both squads as the Renegades and the Tigers went a combined 2-for-27 from beyond the arc. Riverside held the edge on the shooting front by notching a 41.5 mark from the floor.

Despite the Tiger's 20 turnovers, which was double the Renegade's output, they dominated the boards 47-34 thus leading to 40 points in the paint.

It was a subpar game for sophomore guard Trinity Vasquez as she carted just four points into halftime. However, she finished with a team-high 14 points with four of them coming from the charity stripe. She was three boards away from recording her second-straight double-double while adding a pair of assists.

Freshman guard Nyah Belton finished with her first-career double-double as she dropped 10 points and hauled in 11 boards. Sophomroe Vanessa Vargas and freshman Regenus Gates each flushed seven points.

Freshman Alyssa Serna produced quality minutes off of the bench as seen in eight points, two steals and an assists.

Riverside (4-0) will face off against the Moorpark College Raiders in the championship game tomorrow at 4 p.m.
