LANCASTER - No team likes to lose and even a tie for the Marauder women's soccer team was not what it expected in the conference opener on Tuesday because of the high expecatations the team has for itself.
"It feels like a loss. As a whole it was very disappointing considering we had the majority of the possessions throughout the 90-minute game. I feel like we didn't capitalize on a lot of things that we should have," AVC's Lindsey McDermott said. "It was definitely a heartbreak for our team. But we commend Bakersfield for putting up a fight. We analyzed what we did and made a few changes and are worried about what's next. We play everyone twice and I think this was a learning experience since it was the conference opener, but I have no doubt in my mind that we can win conference."
The Marauders scored the first goal of the match in the second half, however, Bakersfield College responded and the game ended in a 1-1 tie, Tuesday at Marauder Stadium.
AVC (7-2-2) outplayed the Renegades (4-4-2) in nearly every facet of the game and by controlling the temp of the game, including possession and a 14-8 overall shot difference.
Rielly Ramsussen put AVC on the board, after a scoreless first half, with a goal at 53:29 which was assisted by McDermott. Only 14 minutes later at 67:00, Bakersfield's Odalys Espinoza even the score.
The Marauders will play host to Victor Valley College on Friday, before their showdown with one of the conference favorites, College of the Canyons on Tuesday on the road.
