Bakersfield College defeats LA Mission College 3-2

The Bakersfield College baseball team broke a tie for first place in the Western State Conference-South with a 3-2 victory over LA Mission College at Gerry Collis Field on Thursday afternoon.

Chris Diaz (2-2) hurled a complete game five-hitter to earn the victory.
BC fought back from a 2-1 deficit to tie things on Harley Lopez's seventh inning RBI single and then took the lead an inning later when Konner Dodge drove in the go-ahead run with a single to left field.

"That was the best ballgame we've played all year," BC coach Tim Painton said.

The Renegades had 12 hits including three doubles and two triples. Dodge and Brock Hallum led the BC offensive attack with three hits apiece.

"We swung the bats a lot better," Painton said. "Konner Dodge coming up with that big hit in the eighth inning was huge."

Diaz was sharp from start to finish and faced just six batter over the minimum. The freshman right-hander issued no walks and had one strikeout.

"Chris Diaz was phenomenal," Painton said. "Eighty-six pitch complete game…He set the tone for the whole day."

The Renegades will host LA Mission at 3 PM on March 14th and LA Valley at 3 PM on March 16th.
