ANDREWS DELIVERS, BUT BC CAN'T GRAB WIN

Luke Andrews tossed another gem, and didn't issue a free pass all game, but BC's fielding wasn't always stellar.
Luke Andrews tossed another gem, and didn't issue a free pass all game, but BC's fielding wasn't always stellar.

Luke Andrews' solid effort on the mound was spoiled by a poor fielding effort behind him as the Bakersfield College baseball team fell 9-2 to visiting Saddleback College on Thursday.

Andrews allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work but was saddled with the loss in large part due to six errors by the Renegades.

Down 3-0, BC scored two runs in the six inning and had a golden opportunity to add more before moving on to the seventh. But with the bases loaded and one out, two straight BC batters struck out to end the threat.

The Gauchos quickly capitalized the momentum shift, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to seize control of the game.

"We gave up four unearned runs," BC coach Tim Painton said. "Our inability to play defense and make routine plays pushed Andrews pitch-count up, number one. And number two it's tough to work from a deficit. He pitched really well. We just didn't make routine plays."
