Baseball Drops First Game of the Season

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College baseball team hosted Allan Hancock on Tuesday afternoon at Gerry Collis Field and came away with a loss, 5-4.

The Bulldogs got on the board scoring a run in the first inning to go up early, 1-0. BC came back to score a run in the second inning off a Landn Kauk RBI and Ryan Dickerson had an RBI groundout in the third to put the Renegades ahead, 2-1.

Allan Hancock came back in the eighth to score three runs and take the lead 4-3 before BC came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 4-4.

In the tenth, the Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the inning to go up 5-4. BC was unable to score in the bottom half and the game became final.

Nate Ortiz started the game at pitcher for the Renegades. He pitched the first two innings before Lane Cowan took the mound for the third and fourth before being replaced by Chris Rodriguez. Rodriguez pitched the fifth and sixth innings before Gabe Ulloa, Michael Keese, Ruben Barron and Benji Caggianelli all saw time on the mound the rest of the game.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Allan Hancock, but due to inclement weather the teams decided to switch home dates and will now play the Bulldogs on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 19th at 12:30pm.

With the loss, BC drops to 6-1 overall.
