Baseball Tops West LA, 6-4

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College baseball team hosted West LA College at home Thursday afternoon in a WSC match-up and came away with the conference victory, 6-4.  

Zach Williams put the Renegades up early, 1-0, after and RBI double to left field that scored Will Reynolds. In the top of the third, West LA put a run across to tie the game at 1-1.

In the fifth, West LA took the lead for half the inning when they put a run across, but BC came back with three runs on an RBI single from Hector Ruvalcaba and a two run RBI double by Trey Harmon.

West LA added another run in the top of the sixth, but then in the bottom of the inning BC answered back again with a Sage Voda RBI single that scores Ashanti Ross and then a Jacob Sanchez brought Voda home on a sacrifice fly to bring the total to 6-3.

In the eighth, West LA brought across another run, but was unable to mount any further runs in the ninth and BC took the win.

Kamron Willman was 4 for 5 at the plate with three singles and a double. Ashanti Ross was 3 for 3 with three singles. Ross also stole four bases on the day, bringing his season total of stolen bases to 15.

Starting the game at pitcher for BC was Nate Ortiz who went seven innings with four strikeouts. Chris Rodriguez entered the game at the start of the eighth, but made a quick exit after allowing three hits with no outs. Benji Cagianelli came in to relieve and finished the game, collecting three strikeouts in two innings.

With the win, BC improves to 13-12 overall and 5-3 in conference.

The Renegades travel to play West LA on the road this Saturday (3/16) at 12pm.
