Football Loses Patriotic Bowl to Saddleback

Mission Viejo, CA - The Renegade Football team headed to Mission Viejo on Saturday to face off against Saddleback College in the 2018 Patriotic Bowl and came away with a narrow 34-31 loss on a last-second Gaucho field goal. 

The game started off with Saddleback scoring a touchdown on their first offensive possession after starting with favorable field position from the BC 32 yard line. Josh Medina, who was well enough to suit-up for the game this weekend, got BC on the board when he found Chance Cooper on a 45 yard pass to tie the game up. 

In the second quarter, the Guachos added a 25 yd field goal after a 12 play, 57 yard drive. The Renegade offense answered back with an 18 play touchdown drive that ate 7:58 off the clock and took the game to halftime with BC in the lead 14-10. 

The second half saw three different lead changes between the two teams before a 37 yard Nathan De Jager field goal tied the game at 24-24 early in the fourth. Each team would then score separate touchdowns to tie the game again, this time at 31-31. Saddleback would get the ball back with 3:28 left in the game and engineered a 60 yard drive to set-up a 32 yard field goal with :09 left on the clock. The Renegades used all three timeouts in an effort to ice the Guacho kicker, but he converted the kick regardless to give Saddleback the 34-31 lead. With one play left, BC was unable to find an answer and gave up their fifth loss of the season. 

Medina was named the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) 2018 Patriotic Bowl Player of the Game and was presented with a plaque post-game. 

BC threw for 259 yards, compared to 285 for the Guachos. They were only able to rush for 98 yards, compared to 197 for the Guachos. 

Leading the way for BC was Media who was 19/31 for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns. Isaiah Martin led the Renegades in rushing with 30 carries for 95 yards and one touchdown. 

Defensively, BC was led by Mario Solario with 15 total tackles (8 solo, 7 assisted) and Jalen Simpkins with 10 total tackles (6 solo and 4 assisted). Justin Harrington had one interception returned for 13 yards. 

With the loss, the Renegades wrap up the 2018 seaosn at 6-5.
