BC Ends Another Long Time Losing Streak on Homecoming Night

BAKERSFIELD, CA- The Bakersfield College football team won their third straight game and improved their conference record to 2-0 with an entertaining 31-21 victory over the Ventura College Pirates on Homecoming Night Saturday, at Memorial Stadium. Renegades not only won but ended a six-year losing streak over the long-time rivals.

Renegades quarterback Joseph Campbell scored the first of his three touchdowns in the game on a 7- yard dash into the endzone at the 1:22 mark of the first quarter.

Ventura tied the game at 7 all halfway through the second quarter, but shortly after BC put together a 10-play, 65-yard drive all on the ground with Campbell scoring his second touchdown on a 10-yard rush, giving the Gades a 14-7 lead which they took into halftime.

In the third quarter, Bakersfield put together another 10-play drive, taking over five minutes of the game time off the clock with Campbell scoring his third straight touchdown from 5-yards out.

The Renegades defense forced a Ventura fumble, which gave the Gades had another time-consuming drive, this time on a 12 play, 64-yard drive that put BC ahead 24-7 as kicker Tristin Skinner made good on a 26-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

Ventura managed to pull within 10 points, scoring on an 80-yard drive after intercepting a BC pass in the endzone. Bakersfield then had sustained another drive after recovering an attempted onside kick by the Pirates with just over five minutes remaining. Running back Jordan Norwood's 5-yard rushing touchdown put the Renegades up 31-14 with just 1:43 remaining in the game. Ventura scored a late touchdown with just 18 seconds left on the clock to pull within 10, however BC recovered another attempted onside kick to run out the clock and grab ahold of the win for good.

Bakersfield College (4-3, 2-0) will travel to Long Beach next Saturday, followed by another road game at East LA before returning for their final home game of the regular season Saturday November 12 versus Hancock.
