Basketball Suffers Second Half Collapse in Loss to LA Pierce

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College men's basketball team hosted LA Pierce College on Wednesday evening at the Gil Bishop Sports Center in a Western State Conference matchup and came away with the loss, 78-76.

The Renegades came out controlling the game in the first half, holding a solid lead through halftime. With 6:08 left in the half they went on 10-0 run that propelled them to a 51-38 halftime lead. At the half, Shahadah Camp and Anieus Medrano were a combined 13 of 14 from the field for a total of 33 points.

LA Pierce opened the second half with a burst, cutting the BC lead to only six mid-way through the second half. With 1:17 left, Pierce hit a three-point basket to tie the game at 72-72. They took their first lead moments later on two free throws and then followed it up with a breakaway layup directly after for a four point lead. The teams exchanged fouls down the stretch, but the Brahmas maintained the advantage and took home the victory.

Camp led the Renegades with 31 points and Medrano added 18.

With the loss, the Renegades drop to 15-10 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

They will next host West LA this Saturday at 3pm in the Gil Bishop Sports Center for their final home game of the season.
