Bakersfield Wins Home Opener over West Hills Lemoore

Bakersfield, CA – A total of 13 ties and 9 lead changes would be all that the Bakersfield College men's basketball team needed to defeat the West Hills Lemoore Eagles on the young season. Sophomore Tyrell Coleman secured the night with a triple double, the first of the season, and help the Renegades win their home opener, 91-83.

A slow first three minutes started the game, as the first point didn't come from either side until the 17th minute in the game. Bakersfield took the charge first, leading as much as 5 points in the game but West Hills took it's lead after the second timeout and managed to keep their lead for the rest of the first half, 37-41.

Renegades jumped to a quick start and cut into the Eagles lead, twice, in the first five minutes by tying the contest. WHL gained their lead right back, but BC took advantage of their turnovers and added the Bakersfield's bench to help with the offense (21-12). The Renegades grabbed their largest lead of 10 points in the night with about five minutes left in the game and held onto their lead with the help of several fouls called against West Hills.

Ending the night as the top scorer in the game was Coleman with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. BC grabbed 47 rebounds while the WHL had 41. In the paint Bakersfield scored 44 with their bench scoring 21.

Next up, the Renegades will play Porterville and West Hills Coalinga for the Milt Stowe Classic Friday, November 19th and 20th. The next time the team will return home at the Gil Bishop Sports Center is December 2nd.
