Renegades Go Undefeated in Conference with Final Regular Season win at Home

Bakersfield, CA – On Sophomore Day the Bakersfield College men's soccer conference championship team hosted the College of the Canyons Cougars and came away with a 4-2 victory. With this win, the Renegades not only won the conference but also managed to not lose and conference game this season.

Defender Anthony Battan started the scoring drive for BC early in the contest. A cross pass from center midfielder Anthony Miron to Battan would get the Gades going offensively. Within eight minutes Bakersfield found the back of the net again and again at the 22nd minute from forward Angel Sandoval, making it his 6th goal on the season. Unfortunately, the Cougars were not backing down and tried to match the men in red and got a goal in at the 24th minute, just a minute after goalkeeper Adrian Sandoval went out with an injury. The half ended 3-1.

Into the second half and it was battle for daylight. Both teams hustle to nab another goal in the last 45 minutes of the contest. Within two minutes after the half, Canyons took advantage of the backup goalkeeper Jeremy Ramirez and went up two points. Still leading, BC was not comfortable with only a one-point lead, forward Daniel Nino scored the insurance goal needed for the team to be a little more relaxed. Head Coach Vayron Martiniez utilized his bench to get some playing time and trusted the rest of his team to hold the lead defensively. After the two hiccups, Ramirez was able to tally three saves in the game.

With the win, the Renegades will continue to play in post season. BC finished the regular season 11-5-4 overall and 7-0-1 in conference. Playoff information will come after the weekend and the Gades will know their mathcup by next week.
