Basketball Academy Brings in a Crowd

Basketball Academy Brings in a Crowd

Bakersfield, CA - The annual BC Basketball Academies drew a great crowd of almost 100 youth and high school participants to campus for the week-long camps. Women's Head Basketball Coach Paula Dahl, her assistant coaches and current players entusiastically coached the attendees in each of the sessions.

The first academy ran from July 23-26 and was focused on youth basketball development, teaching them to become a student of the game through footwork, ball-handling and shooting drills. They were also challenged physically and mentally each day by competiting against their fellow participants in a variety of games.

The Elite Academy held July 30-August 2 was focused on more serious basketball athletes from grades 7-12. It provided more individulaized instruction and provided them also with the ability to improve their mastery of basketball fundamentals while competing against others attendees of their skill level.

"I am extremely happy with the Bakersfield College Basketball Academy turn out", said Coach Dahl. "Our whole goal is to grow the game of basketball one fundamental at a time.  I am pleased with my athletes and the great work they did as coaches.  They are becoming better players as they have an opportunity to teach the game.  This is an exciting time for BC Women's basketball and our commitment to Kern county is very real.  I want to win with local athletes and love the opportunity to help mold both boys and girls in our facility.  We want the community to get used to coming to BC and realize this is the place to receive expert instruction in all sports.  I have to give a shout out to my assistant coaches as well, especially Grant Bingham who coordinated all of the sessions of our summer academy.  It is a great time to be a Renegade!"
