Women's Basketball Suffers Conference Opening Loss

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College Women's basketball team hosted College of the Canyons at the Gil Bishop Sports Center to open up Western State Conference play and lost, 54-49.

The Cougars came out controlling the lead throughout both the first and second quarters to go into halftime with the lead, 19-17.

COC would come out to maintain the edge in the second half, extending their lead to as much as 12 points at times. The Renegades would make a late charge and come back to within 2 with less than 30 seconds to play, but the Cougars withstood the charge and handed BC the conference opening defeat.

In the loss, Brianna Mendez pulled in a double-double for the Renegades scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Jasmyn Rodriguez added 9 points and 5 rebounds and both Abbie Carino and Dasia Wandick scored 8 points each.

With the loss, the Renegades fall to 7-13 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Their next game will be on the road against conference opponent West LA on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7pm.
