BAKERSFIELD, CA- Thankful to just play another game, the Bakersfield College women's basketball team have been one of the few fortunate teams in the CCCAA to not have the whole team out with covid. Each game the Renegades play like they might not get another one soon and they did just that while hosting the LA Valley Monarchs. BC defeated LAV 58-52 and remains undefeated in conference.
Renegades jumped out of the gate and got on the board first. However, the Monarchs wasted no time and quickly tied the game up early. Fortunately, that would be the only time in the first two quarters LA would pressure Bakersfield as BC had their largest lead (10 points) in the first half. The ladies in red went into the locker room with a nice cushion to start the second half, 24-14.
It was a team effort as four of the Renegades led the group with five points each. Bakersfield completed 75% of the free throws in the first half.
Into the third quarter and BC continued to lead and never let LAV trailed by more than 8 points. The fourth quarter would be a little different as the Lady Monarchs begin adding pressure to the Renegades forcing them to take a time out early in the fourth. With two minutes and a half left in the game, LA Valley started scratching through the Renegades lead and only trailing by a field goal. The final minute to take the win would be determined by whichever team could stay give the least number of fouls. In the end victory was given to the ladies in red.
With the win, the Renegades improve to 15-2 overall on the season and remain not only undefeated at home but in the conference. Bakersfield will play their next game on Monday against Citrus and will return back at home Wednesday to take on College of the Canyons at 7pm.
