Bakersfield Struggles against Glendale

BAKERSFIELD, CA- Coming off a loss on Wednesday to the only team the Bakersfield College women's basketball team has lost to in conference was hard, but the Renegades were determined to put the game past them and move on. Saturday evening, BC hosted the top seed in the western-state conference, the Glendale City College Vaqueros. The last time these two teams met at Glendale, Bakersfield came out with the win, this time it would be the Vaqueros to come on top, 42-59.

The Vaqueros started on the board first with Bakersfield not scoring a point until about 3-minutes in and tying twice before the Vaqueros started running with the lead. At the end of the first quarter the Renegades trailed 7-12. Into the second and BC continued to struggle to find the net while Glendale took charge. GC scored 22 more points compared to Bakersfield's 14 in the second and the team took a much-needed break starting the second half down, 21-34.

Brianna Green led the Renegades in the first half with a total of 10 points while teammate Kathleen Rodriguez led in with 9 rebounds.

Bakersfield started the scoring drive in the third period. Glendale was slowly starting to feel the pressure of the Renegades as they picked up the offensive game with 15-points compared to the Vaqueros' 13. The third quarter ended, 36-47. Unfortunately, BC only added 6-points in the fourth and GCC added 12.

As a team, Bakersfield shot 14-2 on second chances.

With the loss, the Renegades drop to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play on the season. Bakersfield will travel to Antelope Valley on Wednesday (2/9) and return home for Sophomore Night on Saturday against West LA at 5PM.
