Bakersfield Struggles against Visiting Cougars

BAKERSFIELD, CA – The Bakersfield College women's basketball team hosted the College of the Canyons Cougars in their second conference game of the season to start the New Year off. Unfortunately, BC was unable to overcome the Cougars offense and fell, 68-37.

Right out the gate, the visiting COC took advantage of the Renegades defense and went on a 6-2 run in the first five minutes of the game. Bakersfield's Elise Enriquez helped her team close the gap with a shot behind the arch (6-5) but the Cougars continued to surge in the first quarter while the lady's in red scored two more points (19-7). BC started the scoring drive in the second quarter but continued to trail into the locker room at halftime, 35-15.

Into the third quarter Bakersfield was able to bring the game as close at 12 points with two minutes left in the game. Despite scoring more points in the third quarter (17-14) BC trailed going into the final quarter. Unsuccessfully, BC was unable to keep the same momentum in the fourth and loss their second conference game.

Leading the team tonight was sophomore Tori Robertson with 13 points and 8 rebounds, followed by Laura Arciga with 10 points and four rebounds. Bakersfield finished the game shooting 70% from the free throw line and had most of their points come off their bench compared to COC (15-9).

With the loss, the Renegades move to 6-11 overall and 0-2 in conference. Up next, BC will travel to West LA on Wednesday and return home Saturday (01/14) to take on the Glendale Vaqueros for a 3:00pm tipoff.
