The Bakersfield College Wrestling Team opens its season by hosting the Bakersfield Duals on Saturday in the Gil Bishop Sports Center.

"We have a young team, but we have some interesting returners," Co-Head Coach Brett Clark said, "Arik Onsurez is making a return after taking a season off to focus on school."

Onsurez wrestled at Bakersfield High School before having a solid season in 2014, and Clark feels like he can make waves at 149s or his certified weight of 133.

Pedro Serrabia also returns at 133s while making a certification weight of 125.

"That's one of the toughest weights in the state," Co-Head Coach Marcos Austin said, "He's a dynamic guy who puts in the time and the work. He fell a little short of placing at state last year, but he had a barn-burner of a match to even get to the tournament. He's a guy who should be a leader, so we're looking for more than just wins from him."

Julio Fuentes is another Renegade wrestler to watch. Fuentes redshirted at Clackamas College in Oregon last season, but came home to Kern County where he placed third in the CIF High School State Championships as a Senior at Golden Valley High School.

"Julio is a guy who can win matches, he's a tough kid, and he puts in work," Clark said.

Bakersfield also returns Jacob Mattson (174) and Andrew Binger (184-197) from last year's team. Binger (North High School) carried a 3.0+ GPA last season while showing improvement in technique and working hard in the mat room.

The Bakersfield Duals will start at 9am on September 10th in the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
