TWO 'GADES PLACE THIRD AT WEST HILLS

Bakersfield College placed fifth as a team and had two wrestlers win consolation championships at the West Hills Tournament Saturday.

Pedro Sarabia went 4-1 on his way to the third place at 125s.

"Pedro came into the tournament as the #6 seed and he lost to the #2 seed from Cerritos 3-2, even though he had a takedown in the works at the end of the match but he ran out of time and couldn't finish it," Clark said, "So he ended up having to beat the #3 seed in the tournament twice to take third place. Great showing by Pedro."

Zack Mitchell made his 2016 debut by going 5-1on his way to the 197 pound consolation championship and topped it all off with a dramatic victory.

"Zack wrestled really well today. He got beat in the semifinals but he sucked it up and won two more matches, " Clark said, "And in the consolation finals where he took third place, Zach was actually behind on points with just a minute to go in the match, but he improvised and took advantage of body position and was able to take his opponent straight to his back and it was over just like that."

Pedro Corona placed fifth at 141 pounds for BC, while Rodolfo Castulo placed sixth at 174 by beating teammate Andrew Binger on misstep that ended in a pin for Castulo. Binger ended up finishing in the top eight despite the loss.

Heavyweight Roberto Macias rounded out top finishers with an eighth place finish.
