Women's Soccer Ends in Draw against Canyons

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Bakersfield College women's soccer team opened up with their first home league match against College of the Canyons. Goalkeeper Aurora Fernandez finished the game with a season high of 13 saves to keep the Renegades from falling to another game on the season. With 4 minutes added to the match, the final whistle would end scoreless.

An early injury from Bakersfield would keep the Renegades on their toes and eye on the prize. The first half was quiet as both teams held on defensively to end the half scoreless. Sophomore, Aurora Fernandez saved the Renegades twice as the Cougars tried to place one down the center and then again on a corner kick.

In the second half, the two teams picked up on possession and shots. College of the Canyons had double their possession and shots on goal while the Renegades would get one shot on goal at the 70th minute but ultimately could not find the back of the net. Fernandez came up big to save Bakersfield with a total of 11 saves in the final half and would be the women of the match to give BC another tie and not a loss.

With the tie, BC ends the night 1-5-2 on the season. The team will play at home on Tuesday, October 8th and take on Citrus College at 4pm and head back on the road Friday, October 11th.
