Women's Soccer End in Draw Against Santa Monica

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College women's soccer team opened the rematch at the Bakersfield College Soccer fields against the Santa Monica Corsairs. The last time the two met up, it was the Corsairs who swept the Renegades, 4-0. This time BC would give SM a run for their money and end the night in a draw, 1-1.

Offensively SM held most of the procession in the beginning of the game and capitalized on that with a goal in the 11th minute. BC left coverage of the goal, leaving the Corsairs to dump a goal behind goalkeeper Sarah Smith. Within nine minutes, the Renegades found the back of the net for the equalizer. Forward Mikayla Polanco placed the ball in the center from a hard-fought dribble from Midfielder Jayden Reyes-Sarmiento. Smith would keep the Gades from trailing by two goals with two superb saves before the end of the half.

Into the second half and both teams continued to push forward and play aggressively. Corsairs kept majority of procession throughout the final half, but Smith kept the Renegades heads above water by coming out big with a total of five saves in the last 47 minutes (two minutes in stoppage time).

With the tie, BC ends the night 3-11-2 overall and 1-9-1 in conference. The team will wrap up their regular season at home on Friday for Sophomore Day on November 12th with a 1pm kickoff time.
