Women's Soccer grabs First Conference Win over Santa Monica

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Fighting with all their might, the Bakersfield College women's soccer team got their first conference win after an almost scoreless game at home in the final minutes to let the Santa Monica Corsair's pick up their only 3rd loss on the season while the Renegades tallied their 6th win.

Bakersfield played with more aggression and urgency despite having less possession in the first half. Santa Monica had less shots on goals than Bakersfield to end the half scoreless.

The second half would start off relatively quiet until about 15 minutes in as both teams were frustrated that the game was still scoreless. A few fouls came in from the dissatisfaction of not being able to score and then it happened, a goal at the 70th minute. The goal was from a ball the Corsairs were kicking to their goalkeeper who happened to be too far out of the box that the ball rolled passed her, she was able to make it in time to slightly push the ball out, but striker Karla Esqueda Cardona rushed in to kicked it in the lone goal.

After the win, Bakersfield now checks in at 6-2-2 on the season and will play another home game against College of the Canyons on Friday, October 7th at 4:00pm.
