RUNNI-GADES! BC

RUNNI-GADES! BC

BC Track and Field is hosting the Western State Conference Track and Field Championship Finals today in historic Memorial Stadium, and in a facility that has been the stage for many firsts-including a world record in the mile-it'll do one more today.

This event will be the first conducted on the new state-of-the-art track surface that was recently installed by Hellas Corporation, the first such refurbishing in more than 20 years.

Several Renegades will be vying for conference championships, school records, and possibly more.

Kyra and Tyra Saunders make up two legs of a 4 x 100 relay team that has threatened every record they've come across in their two seasons of competition at BC. But this is the last home event the Saunders sisters will compete in, and you can be assured that they want to leave a lasting impression.

Jacob Bookout is a high jumper who took a few years away from the sport to work in Texas, but sports runs thick in his blood and the itch to compete never left.

"My Mom, Dad, grandparents, great-grandparents...they all competed in athletics at the college level or at high amateur levels," Bookout said, "I started the season with some big jumps, and I feel good about competing Friday."

Bookout has only seen his marks topped twice this season, and Coach Pam Kelley feels he could be peaking at the right time.

North High School product Veronica Slade was a member of the Lady 'Gades basketball team, but she's more than proven that her hops aren't limited to the hardwood; she's won or placed in the top three in the triple jump and high jump more than once this season.

There are Renegades with potential to rewrite history in several events today. The meet begins at 1p, with running events starting at 3p, and a special announcement coming at 2:45p.
