IT'S ON...COACH CARL AND RENEGADE VOLLEYBALL FIGHT ON AT EL CAMINO

Postseason play opens at 6p as Bakersfield College Volleyball (20-8, 8-0) is in El Camino (21-3, 8-0) for round one of the Volleyball playoffs.

BC has won 13 straight matches, and went undefeated in the month of October, dropping only two sets to opponents.

El Camino matches that streak almost perfectly, with 13 straight wins coming over the same time span. Their last loss came in four sets against #1 Grossmont.

BC Coach Carl Feirerra hasn't beat El Camino in the postseason during his tenure at BC, but he's ready to do so.

While the Renegades ran the table to close the season, they didn't land a first round bye or home game to start postseason play, a trend that has left many BC Athletics observers scratching their heads following BC Men's Basketball's road start after winning conference last season.

"This is something that is endemic to the Western State Conference and not just BC," Athletic Director Sandi Taylor said, "It comes down to a mathematical seeding formula called 'RPI', and because of geographical considerations, we don't have the same amount of games or matches against that deep Southern California talent pool in preseason. So that leaves coaches with the decision to either pump their preseason records against opponents who might not have the depth, sophomore talent level, or general competitiveness as WSC teams, or the coaches can build their schedules with really competitive teams and play the odds. But RPI comes down to your opponent's records, so it's not as straightforward as it seems."

The Renegades have shown improvement over the season, but only the final score will tell the true story. Follow BC's progress tonight on @gogadesgo on Twitter.
