VOLLEYBALL RUN ENDS IN EL CAMINO

The Bakersfield College Volleyball team (20-9, 8-0) lost 3-1 to El Camino College (22-3, 8-0) on the road in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs, bringing a 13 match winning streak and their season to a close.

"We started slow, and I'm not sure why, but we settled down and made adjustments," Coach Carl Ferreira said.

BC dropped the first set 25-15, before turning things up in the second set.

"We made adjustments to blocking and serving, started passing better and got into a rhythm and a great scoring run before tying it up 24-24," Ferreira said, "but they ended up scoring two consecutive points to win 26-24."

In the third set, BC looked like the team that went undefeated in conference play and beat El Camino 25-20, only to see them roar back in the fourth set.

"Their middle blocker was much more challenging than we thought. We shanked a few passable balls...But in the end, out of 150 to 200 possessions, they won maybe eight percent more of them than we did. That's what it all came down to," Ferreira said.

BC won their conference championship for the first time in more than four seasons in 2016.
