Volleyball Takes Both Games at Bakersfield College Quad Tournament

Bakersfield, CA- The Bakersfield College Volleyball team closed out their weekend home opener of the 2021 season by hosting the Bakersfield College Quad Tournament on Saturday, August 28th playing against both Mt. SAC in game one and College of Sequoias in game two. In a competitive showdown against both opponents the Renegades won both games in five sets (3-2,3-2) to move to 3-0 on the season.

Game 1 vs. Mt. SAC

After last night's win, BC had their work cut out for them as Mt. SAC came to play. Right out the gate, the Mounties took the first set 22-25. The Gades were able to come back and take the second set 25-17 but Mt. SAC would end up taking the third set 28-26 after both teams went point for point at 23 points.

BC women's volleyball got their revenge and ran away with the fourth set, 25-15 to tie the sets up 2-2, and take both teams to a fifth set tie breaker. The Renegades and Mounties went toe to toe until Freshman Alena Cisneros got up to serve and helped the team win the first match of the day, 15-12.

Freshmen Kami Marion and Megan Williams led the team in kills, 17 and 16 while Marion match that number in digs. Sophomore Yuliana Rivera ended the first game with a total of 23 digs.

GAME 2 vs. College of Sequoias

The Bakersfield College women's volleyball team hosted College of Sequoias in the final match of the day and took a 5-set victory from the Giants.

Renegades led the first set most of the game until COS was down by three points at 20-23 to go on a 5-0 run and take the first set, 25-23.

Right out of the gates the Giants commended their lead once more early in the second set but the Gades never let them lead by more than three points. A kill from Marion and a serve by Cisneros would tie up the game at 14 and again 15. Sophomore Aly Dees would help BC get their first lead in the second set and keep it to win, 25-20.

Into the third set and COS took the lead early once more but that didn't scare BC as they came back to win the third set, 25-21.

Bakersfield College's momentum rolled in the fourth set as they went point for point with College of Sequoias but unfortunately lost 29-31 forcing a fifth set tie breaker.

Setter Frankie Hernandez put the Gades up early in the fifth, serving seven times with four aces to give BC ultimately the advantage they needed to run away with a second win of the day taking the final set, 15-11

Dees led the Renegades in the second game with 19 kills and 13 digs while teammate Hernandez finished with 23 digs.

The Renegades will head out for the road in their next set of matches playing in the Santa Barbara City College Quad tournament September 4th in Santa Barbara.
