Renegades Sweep Corsair

Renegades Sweep Corsair

BAKERSFIELD, CA – The Bakersfield College volleyball team secured their 10th win Friday evening as they took on the Santa Monica Corsairs (9-6) to take their 5th sweep of the season.

The Renegades led 7-3 before SMC would call for a timeout in the first set. The short break was just what the Corsairs needed to go on a short 7-4 run and cut the edge off of BC's lead. However, Bakersfield had too large of a lead for Santa Monica to touch them, the ladies in red took the first set 25-19.

The second set started with a little more aggression from the Corsairs early in, but the Renegades sealed the second set, 25-16.

It would be Santa Monica to lead for the first time of the night, not once, not twice but three times early in the third set. Both teams went back and forth before the Corsairs took the lead at 4-3. The Renegades did not let the early lead or SMC's improved reaction time get to them as they went on an 8-2 run. Santa Monica got their groove back late in the final set to try and cut BC's lead with a few short runs and errors from Bakersfield, but it would be as close as SMC would get as it ended, 25-17.

Leading the Renegades tonight was Kami Marion with 15 kills and 1 error and Alyson Dees with 10 kills and no errors. While sophomore Francesca Hernandez and Samantha Smith tallied seven digs.

With another home victory, the Renegades now move to an overall record of 10-1. Up next, they will host Ventura on Tuesday, October 19th at 6:00 pm at the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
