Renegades Remain Undefeated at Home

Bakersfield, CA – A small covid outbreak from both sides postponed a much-needed game early in the season against the #6 Bakersfield College Renegades and the #14 Ventura College Pirates.  VC gave BC a run for their money, but Bakersfield was able to overcome Ventura and keep their undefeated streak at home with a sweep against the Pirates.

The Renegades took their lead early until Ventura cut BC's lead by going on a 4-0 run before Bakersfield match their run taking back their lead by four points at 20-16. The Pirates tried coming back but two points would be all they add in the first set. BC goes 25-18.

Into the second set and the Pirates were not going to let Bakersfield run with the set again. Both teams tied early at six all until BC went on a 6-2 run to breakaway. A timeout from Ventura helped the Pirates regroup and go on a 12-4 run to pull away with their first lead in the second set at 20-16. The Renegades turned around and took a timeout to proceed to their own a 4-0 run with help from setter Samantha Smith. VC reciprocated to take their lead back and forcing the game to go into extra points. The second set ended 27-25, BC.

Into the third, both teams went point for point until Pirates led by two points at 9-7. From there Ventura held their lead before Bakersfield found a way to tie the set, three times (12, 13,14). The Renegades took their first lead of the set at 15-14 and kept the advantage to sweep the Pirates, 25-17.

Leading the Gades tonight was Kami Marion with 13 kills while Alyson Dees finished the night with 7 kills. Smith tallied a season high of 16 digs.

With the win, the Renegades move to 11-1 on the season. Up next, they head out for a two game road series first with Glendale tomorrow and College of the Canyons this Friday 10/22 at 6pm.
