Bakersfield Wins at Home 3-1

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College volleyball team hosted the Citrus College Owls in the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Friday night. While the Owls rebounded and put up a strong fight, the Renegades earned a 3-1 victory.

BC opened the first set with a slim advantage and held on to it most of the way. From a 20-18 lead, the Gades won the final five points to take an early lead on the match.

Into the second set and Bakersfield would jump out to a 6-3 lead until Citrus went on a 4-0 to not only tie the set but take their first lead of the night. Both teams took turns taking the lead in the second, but it would be BC that ended with advantage, 25-19.

The Owls kept the Renegades within reach the whole third set and CC used 7-3 run to go ahead at 12-11. BC staved off a pair of set point opportunities for CC but the Owls put the game to rest when they went on another 7-3 run to take the set, 25-19.

In the fourth and final set, both teams went back and forth taking turns on the lead until the game was tied at 9. Citrus took a short lead until the game was tied three more times. The Renegades got their lead back and the Owls tied it for the last time at 21 but Bakersfield tallied four more points to seal the deal with a block from outside hitters Grace Hoyt and Kami Marion.

Leading Bakersfield tonight was Francesca Hernandez with 37 kills while Marion finished the night with 18 kills. Yuliana Rivera tallied a season high of 33 digs.

With the win, the Renegades move to 14-1 on the season. Up next, they head out for a two game road series first with Antelope Valley College on November 3rd and Cuesta College on Saturday November 6th at 1pm.
