Bakersfield Heads Back to State Championship for First Time since 2018

Bakersfield, CA – Bakersfield College women's volleyball team will be heading back to State Playoffs for the first time since 2018 after having an abbreviated season due to Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and losing in the second round of the SoCal Regionals to Grossmont College in 2019. The Renegades punched their ticket after sweeping #9 Orange Coast College on Saturday, November 27, 2021.

The team is the 2021 Western State Conference Champions who outright won the title after going undefeated in conference play. Bakersfield has only one loss on the season which came at the beginning to San Diego Mesa at the Santa Barbara tournament (20-1). Bakersfield is ranked 4th in the state in hitting percentage (.274) and have 1637 total digs. Freshman Tia Jules posts a .444 hitting percentage and is also ranked 4th in the state while Aly Dees comes in at 7th with a .386%. Notable accolades are 1st team All-American /All-State Dees and outside hitter Kami Marion. Most notable is coach Carl Ferreira who not only won the Western State Conference Coach of the Year but also SoCal Coach of the Year.

Friday, December 3, 2021, at Fresno City the Renegades will take on the American River College Beavers at Fresno City College at 10:00AM. The Beavers hold a 22-6 record and is home to Awelina Fakalata, who currently holds the top place for kills per set and kills in State. ARC won the State Championship in 2018 (the last year BC was in the State Playoffs).
