Bakersfield, CA – Bakersfield College women's soccer opened Western State Conference play with a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Santa Monica on Friday afternoon at the BC Soccer Field.
The Renegades and the Corsairs both generated chances but were ultimately held off the scoreboard thanks to strong defensive efforts and standout play in goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Mercedes Ramirez anchored the Bakersfield back line, recording six saves across 55 minutes of action to keep the Corsairs from finding the net.
Offensively, Bakersfield managed three shots, highlighted by sophomore Alexandra Gallardo's strike in the second half, but Santa Monica keeper made the save to preserve the shutout.
Both teams also saw their share of physical play, combining for four yellow cards.
The Renegades return to action next week as they continue conference play with two away games. BC will play at LA Valley on Tuesday and Canyons on Friday.
