The Bakersfield College baseball team earned a series split against Taft College last week, securing a 6–4 home victory before falling 15–5 on the road in the second game of the two-game set.
Game 1: Bakersfield 6, Taft 4 (Gerry Collis Field)
The Renegades opened the series strong at home, collecting 15 hits in a 6–4 win on Feb. 12. Bakersfield jumped out early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding three more over the next two frames to build a 5–0 advantage.
Jordan Brito led the offense with three hits, including two triples, and scored twice. Liam O'Reilly continued his hot streak, going 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs. Landon McDonald added two hits and drove in two runs, while Chance Gerecke and Nick Martin each contributed an RBI.
On the mound, Logan Judd earned the win after allowing just one run on four hits over 6.2 innings while striking out four. Kaleb Pinedo closed the door with two scoreless innings to earn the save.
Game 2: Taft 15, Bakersfield 5 (Cougar Field)
In the series finale on Feb. 14, Taft used a big middle innings surge to pull away for a 15–5 victory. After a competitive start, the Cougars scored nine runs between the fourth and sixth innings to take control of the game.
Landon McDonald powered the Renegades' offense with two home runs and two RBIs, finishing 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Luke Shaw added a pinch-hit home run and RBI, while Jason Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Nick Martin also recorded two hits.
Despite collecting nine hits, Bakersfield was unable to keep pace with Taft's aggressive baserunning and timely hitting. The Cougars drew 11 walks and capitalized on scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
The split keeps Bakersfield above 50% with a 7-5 overall record.
