Despite the loss, a new star may have emerged for the Renegades.
Kern Valley High School product Dalton Gallis was 16-27 for 256 yards and four touchdowns, after being activated and placed on the game roster this week.
"This wasn't always in the plan, but when they came up to me and asked me, I was ready to go, I'm here to play," Gallis said.
Gallis seemed to settle down during the game.
"I think anybody playing their first college game is going to be nervous," Gallis said, "The first couple of drives you can see, I was a little amped up. But once I calmed down and trusted the guys on the line and the guys running the routes, I couldn't ask for anything else but the guys playing 100%."
Kern Valley is a Division 5 Central Valley school, and Gallis was eager to prove himself against big-time competition.
"I moved to Kern Valley from LA when I was 13, and I was competitive in LA, and then I moved up there and it was different. I'm happy that there are athletes out there on the field that I can play against...there was great talent out there."
Gallis said the team was disappointed in the loss, but felt that there was a lot of improvements that can be carried into next week's road game on October 3rd against College of the Canyons.
The Renegades running game also showed serious improvement this week. Sophomore Curtis McGregor and Wasco product Isaiah Sharpe provided a powerful 1-2 punch for the 'Gades. McGregor scored two touchdowns and had 10 rushing attempts for 57 yards and a huge 84 pass and catch from Gallis, while Sharpe had 14 carries for 79 yards.
