Football Sends Eight More to Next Level

BAKERSFIELD, CA -  The Bakersfield College football program proudly announces that eight more standout student-athletes from the 2024 squad have committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year universities. This class features a defensive talent that contributed to the team's 6-5 season, including a 4-3 conference record and 4-1 performance at home in 2024.

Each of these athletes played a key role in one of the program's most competitive seasons and now prepares to represent their new programs at the next level:

Joshua Macon – University of Idaho (FCS)

A disruptive force on the defensive line, Macon played in seven games and totaled 28 tackles with 10.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. 

Julian Smith – University of Hawaii (FBS)

A versatile defensive back, Smith started all 22 games and registered 114 total tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, 1 interception, and 10 pass breakups. He also made an impact on special teams with 23 kick returns for 434 yards.

Phoenix Tusa – West Texas A&M (Division II)

A dynamic presence up front, Tusa appeared in eight games and racked up 21 total tackles, including 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks—leading the team in TFLs despite missing time due to injury.

Logan Goodspeed – Fresno State University (FBS)

Goodspeed was a dominant defensive lineman who played all 11 games and totaled 26 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 6 sacks. His ability to pressure the quarterback and disrupt backfields made him a standout on the front line.

Hugo Camacho – Colorado Mesa (Division II)

Camacho appeared in eight games and tallied 23 total tackles, including a sack and pass breakup. His consistency and motor earned him a spot in one of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's top defensive units.

Johnathan Gonzalez – Arizona Christian University (NAIA)

Gonzalez played in seven games and contributed 16 tackles, while also providing valuable depth on the defensive line and special teams.

Chase Gratt – Harding University (Division II)

Gratt showed his versatility as a defensive lineman with 19 total tackles and 4 tackles for loss across 12 games. He also contributed on special teams with one blocked punt.

Dantonio Hackworth – Morgan State (FCS)

Hackworth appeared in all 21 games as a linebacker and totaled 42 tackles and 2 tackles for loss. He also added an interception and eight pass breakups, demonstrating his coverage skills and awareness in the open field.
