Bakersfield Falls 5–4 in Wild First-Round Battle, Closes Season as Co-WSC Champions

BAKERSFIELD, CA - In a playoff match that swung back and forth from the opening whistle to the final seconds, the Bakersfield College Men's soccer team's season came to an end Wednesday afternoon with a 5–4 loss to Glendale in the First Round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals.

The Renegades wasted no time striking first, as Alejandro Alvarez put BC on the board in the 9th minute off a setup from Andrew Orozco. Glendale responded with two quick goals to jump ahead, but the Renegades answered again, this time with Orozco burying the equalizer in the 33rd minute to send the match into halftime level at 2–2.

Bakersfield burst out of the break with momentum. Anthony Gambe delivered a go-ahead goal in the 53rd minute, and just one minute later, Alvarez netted his second of the day, giving BC a 4–2 advantage and sending the home crowd into a roar.

But Glendale mounted a late surge, scoring in the 60th, 87th, and 90th minutes to steal back the lead in the closing moments. Despite strong attacking stretches and a three-save performance from goalkeeper Aaden Zamora, the Renegades were unable to find one more answer.

With the defeat, Bakersfield's postseason run comes to a close, but their season remains defined by grit, growth, and a championship finish. The Renegades end the year as Co-Western State Conference Champions.
