Renegades Drop Road Contest to Moorpark, 9–8

MOORPARK, CA - The Bakersfield College softball team opened its road trip with a hard-fought 9–8 loss to Moorpark College on Monday afternoon.

The Renegades jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and adding to their advantage in the middle frames. Bakersfield built an 8–2 lead through six innings behind timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.

Alexia Marquez led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Emily Hernandez added two hits and an RBI. Andrea Barajas and Jennifer Padilla each drove in a run, and Sophie Oliver and Lexi Rolin both crossed the plate twice. Bakersfield totaled nine hits and drew six walks in the contest.

In the circle, Cassidy Torres delivered a solid start, allowing just three runs over six innings while striking out one. The Renegades defense turned in 21 putouts and kept Moorpark off the scoreboard early.

Moorpark rallied in the late innings, scoring seven runs over the final two frames, including three home runs, to take the lead. Bakersfield attempted a comeback in the seventh, scoring three runs, but ultimately came up just short.

The Renegades will host a three-way on Saturday, February 7th against Ventura and Riverside.
