BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College softball team came up short at home Friday afternoon, falling 8-5 to Chaffey.
Bakersfield struck first with two runs in the opening inning and matched Chaffey with two more in the second to keep pace early. However, a four-run second inning by the Panthers proved to be the difference, giving the visitors a lead they would not surrender.
Alexia Marquez paced the Renegades at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, an RBI, and a stolen base. Isabella Harrison turned in a perfect performance, finishing 3-for-3, while Emily Hernandez added two hits and drove in two runs. Alexia Martinez also contributed an RBI, and Andrea Barajas brought in a run to round out the scoring for Bakersfield.
In the circle, Cassidy Torres provided steady relief, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing just two runs while inducing 12 groundouts. Chaffey collected 18 hits overall, including a home run from Fernanda Cano and multiple extra-base hits from Lauren Chappell to help extend the lead in the middle innings.
Bakersfield finished with 10 hits and continued to battle throughout, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Renegades dropped the home matchup, 8-5.
