BAKERSFIELD, CA - Bakersfield College dropped a high-scoring matchup to Citrus, 13-7, on Tuesday afternoon at home despite a strong offensive effort from the Renegades.
Citrus jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs in the first two innings and finishing with 21 hits on the day. The early surge put Bakersfield in a difficult position, as the Renegades worked to chip away at the deficit throughout the game.
Bakersfield responded in the third inning with a four-run rally, highlighted by a big performance from Alexia Marquez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs, including a double. Lexi Rolin added two hits and a pair of runs scored, while Andrea Barajas contributed two hits and an RBI behind the plate.
The Renegades continued to battle, adding three more runs in the sixth inning. Samantha Fuentes delivered an RBI pinch-hit, and timely hitting helped keep Bakersfield within striking distance.
In the circle, Lillian Visser, Alexia Martinez, and Cassidy Torres combined for the outing, with Martinez tossing five innings in relief.
Despite being outhit, Bakersfield capitalized on Citrus miscues, as the Owls committed five errors in the game. However, Citrus' consistent offense and two home runs proved to be the difference.
BC will continue their long week of games with a doubleheader on Wednesday at Cyrpress, a single conference game at Antelope Valley and they will travel to Orange Coast on Saturday to wrap up its long week.
