ORANGE COAST, CA - The Bakersfield College softball team split a hard-fought doubleheader on the road at Orange Coast on March 21, dropping game one 5-4 before bouncing back with a 4-2 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Renegades (12-15) collected eight hits and showed patience at the plate with six walks but came up just short in a late 5-4 loss. Andrea Barajas led the offense, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, while Jennifer Padilla and Emily Hernandez each drove in a run. Isabella Harrison added a two-hit effort as Bakersfield battled back with a three-run fifth inning to take the lead. However, Orange Coast answered late to secure the walk-off win.
Game two saw Bakersfield respond in a big way, improving to 13-15 with a 4-2 win behind a strong all-around performance. The Renegades tallied 12 hits, highlighted by a standout game from Andrea Barajas, who launched a three-run home run and finished with three RBIs. Alexia Marquez contributed with a 2-for-3 performance and an RBI, while Lexi Rolin and Alexia Martinez each added two hits.
In the circle, Lillian Visser earned the win, allowing just one run over four innings, while Alexia Martinez closed the door with a three-inning save.
Bakersfield heads out for a single road game at Canyons and will return on Saturday for a three-way with Cuesta and Grossmont College.
