The Bakersfield College Women's Basketball (1-10, 0-1) team lost their Western State Conference South opener against Citrus College (8-6, 1-0) 85-63 in Glendora Wednesday night.

"Citrus could do no wrong on offense, but part of that was our defensive breakdowns," Coach Paula Dahl said, "I was struggling to find a defense we could play."

McKaiela Tyler led the Lady Gades with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots. Veronica Slade chipped in a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

"Citrus was a very good team tonight, but my kids fought and they fought really, really, hard. They fought hard for 40 minutes, but we just weren't spot-on on defense, and with Citrus shooting like that, you can't afford anything less," Dahl said.

The Lady Gades play their home conference opener on Saturday, January 9th at 3pm against College of the Canyons (10-4) in the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
