The Bakersfield College women 's basketball team let a 24-point lead slip away and lost 73-70 to Santa Monica College in Western State-South Conference action at the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Wednesday night.
BC led 48-31 at halftime before being out-scored 42-22 in the second half by the Corsairs.
MacKaiela Tyler had 20 points seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals and Veronica Slade chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Renegades, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
"They put that press in and we started to struggle," BC coach Paula Dahl said. "We talked about it (their aggressiveness) at halftime. We just had a hard time responding to it. The first half we dominated the boards. We were running the floor. Playing with a lot of confidence. Then we just kind of started to slip a little bit. Came back strong at the end but we just didn't have everybody all-in tonight."
All five BC starters scored in double figures.
Katya Echavez and Oshaela Gray scored 21 points each to pace Santa Monica (6-15, 2-5 WSC).
BC (4-13, 3-4 WSC) shot 40-pecent (26 0f 65) from the field. Santa Monica made 35.5-percent (27 of 76) of its shots from the floor.
The Renegades out-scored the Corsairs in every quarter but the third. In that period Santa Monica bested the Renegades 28-6.
"I told them (my players), Santa Monica they're a scary team," Dahl said. "They're athletic. They've struggled just like we have so they were equally as hungry. Just one of those times you wish there wasn't halftime. We thought we fixed what we needed to fix. Just a tough one."
