BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College women's soccer team earned a big 1-0 victory over the visiting College of the Canyons, who are currently ranked first in the Western State Conference South, on Tuesday afternoon, securing their fifth conference win of the season and improving to 8-7-2 overall (5-3-2 WSC).
After a tightly contested first half, the Renegades found their breakthrough in the 72nd minute when Delilah Cardenas buried a shot off an assist from Giselle Cardenas, putting BC ahead for good.
The Renegade defense stood strong against a dangerous Canyons attack, with goalkeeper Addyson Evens recording six saves to earn the shutout. Bakersfield dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Canyons 19-8 and leading 4-3 in corner kicks.
Canyons' keeper tallied eight saves on the day.
With the win, Bakersfield continues to climb the conference standings as the regular season winds down with only four regular-season games left. The Renegades will play two road games before closing out the home stand for Sophomore Day on November 7th against Citrus College.
