The Bakersfield College women's tennis team (11-8, 4-5) lost to Santa Barbara City College (11-2, 8-1) by a score of 8-1.
"Santa Barbara played tough and once again started off the day with a 6-0 lead after singles. But unlike last time, the girls kept their cool into doubles," Coach Nick Laudermilk said.
The Lady 'Gades were able to pick up a point in doubles thanks to a newfound synergy in teammates who were once rivals at the prep level.
"The duo of Riley Tucker and Kaylee Defrees beat Maddie Seeds and Savannah Bickle 8-6. That makes it 4-4 for the new #1 doubles team this season," Loudermilk said.
Despite playing against one of the toughest teams in the state, the Lady 'Gades didn't quit at any point in the match.
"Our #3 doubles team of Ashley Guillen and Lucy Cisneros got off to a quick 4-1 start, but couldn't hold the lead and lost 8-4. WE got a good fight from the girls today but in the end Santa Barbara was the better team once again," Loudermilk said.
