3C2A State Championship Women's Field Athlete of the Meet: Neshara Smith

Bakersfield's own Neshara Smith finished off her season with an outstanding performance at the Western State Conference Championships.

Neshara's "stellar" performance led her to be recognized as the Women's Field Athlete of the Meet. Neshara took the lead in the Women's Heptathlon seven event competition and kept the lead for two days. When asked about competing in the Heptathlon event at state she mentioned that, "State was the hardest thing I have ever done because I did it along with my 3 open events". Those events were the Long Jump, 100m hurdles, and the High jump. Neshara also stated that although it was extremely "challenging" it was, "the most fulfilling experience I have ever had in my 15 years of competing in Track and Field". When asked about her last season here at BC she responded with "Do what everyone said you couldn't do, and do it all with confidence. Believe in you, even if no one else does. Go Gades!".

Besides winning the Women's Heptathlon event at state, Neshara Smith also won the Women's Long Jump event with a 20.20 ft jump (6.16m ) and the 100-meter hurdles with a 13.85 time. She also placed a respectable fourth in the Women's High Jump.

Congratulations and Thank you Neshara for representing Bakersfield College.
