Bakersfield Battles but Falls 3–1 to Cuesta in WSC Crossover Match

BAKERSFIELD, CA - Bakersfield fought through four competitive sets on Thursday night but ultimately came up short in a 3–1 loss to Cuesta (15–25, 24–26, 25–21, 12–25) in the Western State Conference Crossover match.

After a slow start in the opening set, the Renegades responded with a strong push in the second, nearly evening the match before Cuesta edged them late. Bakersfield found its rhythm in the third, taking the set 25–21 behind improved hitting and defensive pressure, but Cuesta closed the night with a dominant fourth to seal the match.


Alexandra Watts paced Bakersfield with 11 kills, while Maya Barron and Ruby Hawkins added 10 and 8 kills, respectively. Carly Hayes contributed a highly efficient .429 hitting percentage, and Amanda Zepeda chipped in 5 kills and 2 service aces. 
Maya Barron and Taylor Drake combined for 31 assists, helping drive the offense throughout the match. Zepeda, Chloe Lopez, and Anabel Naranjo each delivered an ace, totaling four for the Renegades.


Chloe Lopez anchored the back row with 15 digs, while Zepeda added 8. Hawkins and Watts each tallied a pair of block assists to lead Bakersfield at the net.

Despite the loss, the Renegades showed grit and flashes of strong offensive cohesion, especially in the third-set win. Bakersfield will look to build on those stretches as they conclude their season and look ahead to next.
